July Athlete of the Month: Meredith Roberts

How and when did you discover CrossFit?
I started CrossFit a little over 3 years ago. A friend told me she was going to try an intro class at Everproven and I tagged along. I have always been an active person but was struggling to find a good way to workout that would push myself. I quickly learned CrossFit is that workout for me!
How has CrossFit affected you since you started?
Joining the Everproven community has affected me in an endless number of positive ways! I have made so many new friends from this community. The good quality kind that are motivating and help you to be a better, stronger person! For me, strength and confidence go hand in hand. CrossFit has helped me work on and improve both! I remember when I first started CrossFit I would cherry pick the workouts for the week and not go on certain days if I didn’t feel comfortable with the movements or maybe there was a partner workout. These days I stick to a schedule that works for me and show up regardless of the workout! I have learned to love working on my weaknesses.
What class do you normally attend?
6:30pm class 😉 on normal days. I make guest appearances at many different times right now!
What are your short and long term goals?
One of my short term goals is getting more comfortable hanging from the rig. Any gymnastics movement is a major weakness and I would like to make improvements in this area in the long term. Another long term goal is to maintain general functional fitness and keep showing up! Working out is great for the mental and physical health.
What’s your favorite WOD/movement?
Snatch! I have made a lot of progress with my form over the last year and I can’t wait to continue improving now that the gym is open again.
What’s your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
Thrusters 🙁 I don’t mind front squats and push presses. But when you put them together…. I would rather do burpees!
What is one interesting fact many people don’t know about you?
I’m one of the few weird CrossFitters that actually enjoys running. Before the coronavirus pandemic I was training for my first marathon, but unfortunately it was cancelled. I’m only telling you this so when the next opportunity comes up I don’t chicken out!!
