How and when did you discover CrossFit?
After a life-changing weight loss transformation with Isagenix, I thought I could accomplish anything. But when a friend of mine posted a video on Facebook of her latest CrossFit PR, I thought “I could never do CrossFit. I wish I could do that.” My very next thought was “Where the heck is this negative thought coming from!? Why can’t you?” Right then and there (at 11pm on a weeknight no less) I contacted my BFF Christine DeAngelis who I knew worked out at EverProven, and within an hour she got me in touch with Meg. That was July 2017 and the rest is history.
How has CrossFit affected you since you started?
The academic geek type, I’d never done any sports or touched a barbell in my entire life. Running and yoga, that’s it. I had no idea that from the first day of my on-ramp and every day afterward I would surprise myself with what I’m capable of. I’ve learned to challenge myself but at the same time I’ve learned to be patient with my progress, respect the process, and have the discipline to listen to what my body is trying to tell me. I’m more confident, somehow I’m a morning person now (WTF?), and I’m happy to be part of a community of friends. Part of the reason it’s so easy for me to get up at zero-dark-thirty in the mornings is the reward of seeing my 0530 crew.
What class do you normally attend?
0530!! #firstclassbestclass
What are your short and long term goals?
Right now I’m recovering from a lower back injury (yay new life experience!), so my short term goal is to take this time as an opportunity to really refine my skills and form. It’s a blessing in disguise to take it all back to square one – my snatches and cleans at these lighter weights have never felt better. I’m hoping I come back a better CrossFitter and athlete. My long term goal is to drive my confidence and skill high enough that I’m ready to compete in my first competition before December 31, 2021. Maybe the Great Equalizer in January 2022. We’ll see.
What’s your favorite WOD/movement?
Fight Gone Bad!!!!!!!!!
What’s your LEAST favorite WOD/movement?
“Burpees” is a curse word.
What is one interesting fact many people don’t know about you?
I’m a self-published author, I’m in a polyamorous relationship, I have three degrees, I’m terrified of heights, I will do anything for pizza, my favorite smells are scotch tape and sharpened pencils, and I hate eggplant. That should do it. đŸ˜€
